Dear Members,

The new electric carts go live this Saturday May 3rd for the Men’s Opening Day Tournament and all future play! The temporary gas carts we have been using will be taken away ASAP after this weekend.

With the construction of the cart barn comes the introduction of electric powered golf carts. These carts include several features that will be new to us, including geofencing using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to create a virtual boundary around a particular location. This will restrict where the carts may be operated. Note that these restrictions will NOT be any more than in the past. For example, carts need to return to the path as they approach a green and stay on cart path on all par 3s. Players will be able to see these restrictions when the get close as a red line on the screen in the golf cart. In addition, if the operator goes beyond the restriction there will be a notification on the screen along with a loud beep. The cart will no longer move forward. The operator should shift the cart into reverse, back out until out of the restricted area and then proceed forward within the unrestricted area.

To help ease the transition to geofencing you will see minimal traditional signage, roping and marking. These will all be removed in a month or so. to clean up the clutter on the course.   That does NOT mean you will then be able to drive the carts beyond or into the restricted areas including naturalized areas. Once again there will be no new incremental restrictions.

There will be a bit of a learning curve with implementation of the restricted area boundaries. We ask for your patience as we work to refine these boundaries. Please let the Pro Shop know if you find any of these boundaries particularly troublesome.

Note that the main yardage listed on the screen is to the middle of the green and NOT to the flag. You will also be able to see yardage to the front and back of the green. Use traditional methods like a rangefinder to determine the precise yardage to a flag.

There should be little change associated with dropping/picking up and getting golf bags loaded onto the electric carts. Golf bags will continue to be stored in the Pro Shop.  Carts will be staged in an area adjacent to the Pro Shop.  The attendants will either load bags that are brought to the course or stored in the Pro Shop onto a cart. As you have in the past let the attendant know which bag is the driver and passenger. We ask for your patience as we all transition to these changes.

We hope you enjoy the introduction of the new electric golf carts.
