Dear Members, 

At long last it seems like the weather has turned out to be more seasonable. We had twice as much rain in June than the average amount. As a result, the rough is thicker than normal, this should thin out provided we have warmer and dryer weather. In addition, because of the cooler and well above average rainfall there is more Poa in our greens which should also dissipate with more seasonable weather.

With the dyer weather the grounds crew has been focused on mowing all portions of the golf course on a more regular schedule. They are also working hard to complete the landscaping work associated with construction of the cart barn. The remaining components including the retention ponds/basins/basins and lower green should be completed over the next few weeks (weather permitting).

We have also completed the first sections of cart path repairs on holes number one and two. Once again due to weather delays, we are behind schedule on completing the remaining sections of cart path repair (holes 3,6,12,13,16,17 & 18). Therefore, we are looking to modify the schedule. We do not have any open Mondays (no previously scheduled event) until after Labor Day. It will take another couple of days to complete this work. As a result, we are working to coordinate with the asphalt company to complete this work on a Monday with an event that does not begin until the afternoon and a select Wednesday. We will notify you once these dates are locked in. Also to reinforce communication/awareness a special email announcement will be sent from the Pro Shop along with a notification on the Whoosh Tee Sheet. We will also have spotters out on the golf course on the day of work to remind golfers to stay off the newly laid asphalt.

This is also the time of the year when we historically see more leaks in our well-over-useful life irrigation system. This results in wet spots out on the course until we can find the source of the leak and complete the needed repair. It should be noted we have well above average number of leaks due to the age and quality of the system versus current standards. Your patience is appreciated as we strive to keep up with the volume of required repairs. That means you may run into an unexpected soft spot on the course. This is not due to our irrigation schedule to keep the grass healthy. At the same time there are some specific areas of focus for drainage issues like hole number sixteen which will be worked on as our schedule permits.

A couple of other things of note. After a successful trial of installation and usage of the green with white stripe “scatter pole” on hole number two, we will be installing these poles on all par 4s and 5s. That means you should, remain on the cart path after teeing off until after you pass the “scatter pole” you can then enter the rough and proceed to your ball. Finally, due to the poor construction and drainage issues resulting in a drain on resources, the left side fairway bunker on hole number one will be removed and grassed in.

To assist with improving course conditions a Divot & Ball Mark Repair Party is scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM. You will be provided with a half hour of training and then head out to the course to complete the divot and ball mark repairs on your assigned holes with your designated group. Stay tuned for more details and how to sign up. In the interim, please mark this date on your calendar

We completed our first round of Turf Talk sessions. Thanks to those of you that stopped by and provided your feedback. We are working on implementing many of your suggestions. We will schedule some additional sessions before the close of the season. In the interim, if you have any questions please reach out to Craig, Nick or me.
