I hope everyone had a wonderful start to the Holiday Season!
Just a few quick updates and reminders for the Golf Course now that we have had our first big snow event.
As usual the carts have been put away for the winter now and the temporary cups have been put out in all the Approaches. Any play on days the course is open will be walking only and no putting/walking on the greens.
Our limited winter staff and I will be anxiously looking for the next dry and warm day to put down a heavy topdressing of sand over our greens. This is done to protect the crown of the plant from damaging wind and freezing. We also will be covering some of our greens that are in a vulnerable spots with winter covers designed to allow sunlight and water in but keep the frost and wind damage to a minimum. So if you see white covers on greens like #1, #5, and #8, you will know we are trying to prevent the damage that occurred last winter.
We also still need to spray our Winter Snow Mold protection on all the Greens, Tees, and Fairways. This is done to protect our important Bentgrass surfaces from disease pressure when covered in snow for long periods of time.
This time of year, I get a lot of questions about what our staff will be doing all winter. The answer is probably a lot more than most people realize. This winter we have several projects planned and some of the basics........
- Tree trimming through out the golf course to limb up low hanging branches.
- Several drainage projects to repair clogged or crushed lines
- Bunker drainage repairs in a few bunkers
- Work on our project at #4 pond when weather allows
- All our equipment gets pressure washed, full service, oil change and filters, bearings and blades replaced and sharpened
- Irrigation system enhancements where we have been growing much needed new grass areas
Enjoy the rest of your Holiday Season and please reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have!
